LATEST NEWS: 1000 Decks Sold

Featured Combo – Shuttlecock and Blindfolded
You can substitute Shuttlecock for Party Mode and Blindfolded for Element Fire and the combo works the same. Basically it’s a good way to play TEN cards in one turn. If you can pull this off, you’ve pretty much won.

Hey Sopiets! Gah, it won’t catch on.

Just wanted to informally introduce you guys to the site proper – did you like my press release? I based it off a Yu-Gi-Oh one. Konami’s press releases for Yu-Gi-Oh are hilarious, and they did actually use the phrase “your wish has been granted!” in regards to a release of one of their sets … it was too good to resist.

Main reason I’m writing is to say thanks: we’ve already sold a thousand decks so far, which means a thousand people playing our ridiculous game. So thank you. Selling cards is really the only way to make a profit. It’s not like there are many merchandising opportunities for toys, plushies and the like when all the characters are depicted as monochrome stick figures. Wouldn’t be fun to cuddle. In any case, you guys are awesome 😀 We have more stock on its way so you can still place an order just fine. Shouldn’t take more than a couple days extra to reach you.

I’m currently in the midst of a deep-fought game between Danny and my dad. We’ve recently taken to playing a ‘first to three wins’ rule. Currently I’ve won two games, while my dad and Danny have won a game each. EVERYTHING TO PLAY FOR.

Danny and I started working on vague Deck 2 ideas last night. We also wanna start a Sopio Super League. I’ve been to a couple Yu-Gi-Oh tournaments around London recently, and they only had about twenty people. We saw a Magic tournament with the same number. I KNOW I could get more than twenty people to London for a regular Sopio tournament, but we’d need to work out who would run them, entry fees, prizes (I’d love to make special cards just for tournament winners), worldwide rankings, localised regular events across the UK … all things that would be very very cool but very hard to do. I’ve tasked Danny with the job of getting quotes and other such enquiries. Who knows what we can do. Seriously though … Sopiets! Like Soviets! No?

    Sopenzians!

  2. Bjorn Bakker says:

How about sopiones, pronounced [soh-pee-OH-nays]. That would the actual Latin plural of sopio. Or maybe something simpler (and pronounceable), like sopios, [SOH-pee-ohs].

  3. Shawn says:

Still waiting on my deck! Congrats on 1000 decks! I want to be a part of the league butttt I live in Texas in the US so… Yeah. Haha

    Sopiozos?

I can’t think of anything better at the moment.

  4. Rosanna says:

Alex Day, you are wonderful xxxxxxxx

  5. Steven Libers says:

I am willing to travel to London from Leeds for a Sopio tournament. Got about 10 people that love the game already, as well as family 😀

  6. Alfred says:

    Homosopiets? lol

  7. Alofyn says:

I like Sopiets, but I think that Sopionents is much better, as it actually means “Sopio opponents”. ^^ (If you ever use this, be sure to accredit me for the idea, free of charge, of course. 😉 )
Also, I’ve never been to MTG or any other card tournament with less than 50 contestants, but from I’ve experienced so far – “the less is more”: that way the tournament doesn’t last whole day long and you have a bigger chance to win the price, in a cozier and friendlier atmosphere, etc. 😀 Otherwise, if you ever make tournament for more than a hundred people, it’d be wise to arrange them into smaller eliminatory groups (similar to World Cup’s), for the reasons above, as well as avoiding unnecessary confusion. 🙂
Would you consider making foiled cards in limited edition (such as for prices), or is it too difficult to produce?

  8. Becky says:

This is ridiculous! I ordered my cards on Monday night, now it is TUESDAY night and they arent here! My life is so hard…
Also, it really upset me when I watched your latest Sopio video, where you reviewed the last couple of versions of Sopio, and for mexican dog you had a whole backstory 😀 But with the new version all you get is “Mexican Dog -250” Any chance you could tell us the backstorys for all the cards, maybe on the end of your vlogs?

  9. Matty says:

Definately do the tournaments! And do one in Manchester 🙂

Just emailed in my card designs!

  10. Vera says:

My friend bought sopio, and we’ve been playing it nonstop since.

  11. Brittany says:

that would be freaking sweet if u started tourneys .. lol but i live in NYC wouldnt be able to go… i would so try to get my local comic store to purchase them and maybe i could hold tourneys there. ehh?

  12. Brittany says:

ooo Alex if by any chance you read this it would be cool if u made a vinyl sticker(s)[the kind that go on laptops idk] that would come free when you purchase a deck. =]

  13. cooliocracker says:

I will definitely come to any tournament you organise, my cards haven’t arrived yet but I am looking forward to having a game my friend doesn’t have that I can teach him (he’s a game geek, there aren’t many games he doesn’t have!) I wouldn’t mind being a sopiet !!!

  14. James says:

I just bought my starter deck 😀 I’m looking forward to getting everyone in my area to buy some too! I’ve been following you on youtube for a couple of years Mr. Day, but THIS is definitely my favorite thing that you’ve done! 🙂

  15. Dave! says:

You better organise a tournament in Northern Ireland!

  16. There better be a Seattle tournament! I’ve got my deck, and I’m working on getting some of my friends into it.

I know I could get at least 5 people out to a Seattle Tournament… probably even 6!

  17. Ashley says:

My flatmate bought these cards a few weeks back and now there are loads of us crazy about this game! People are begging to play it, haha! I’ve been waiting for my set of Sopio cards for over a week now and I just want them to be here already!

  18. Jonathon says:

I’m waiting on payday so I can buy these, and then I’m completely up for a tournament style thing. Worst comes to worst if there’s not going to be huge numbers, but it’s enough to cost a tonne, borrow a park.

  19. Sarah says:

My deck came in today. Already organized a game with friends for tomorrow.

  20. Steve says:

Mine arrived today, love it. Good stuff!

  21. Eri says:

i want a sopio deck so bad! :3 i doubt my very christian mother would want me to have a card game with the card “shuttlecock” in it >.>
oh well, i’m hoping my mother won’t look at the cards and just buy me the freaking deck lol

  22. emilio says:

    how about sopies 🙂

  23. Jonny says:

Awesome! i would definitely go to sopio tournaments in London, i always wanted to go to pokemon card tournaments when i was younger but i was too young (obviously :s) i love it that your taking this seriously and making it into a proper thing ^_^

  24. Alex Cater says:

I had a great combo where I played party mode, then I played mirror mode an element of water, then stole and played all the good cards out of my opponents hand.

  25. Bec says:

I had a random thought that the sopio logo thats on the back of the cards would make an excellent t-shirt 🙂

  26. Joe says:

Sopio booster packs please (: and a tournament in Manchester if you’re organising them!

  27. Pretzu says:

    Sopiopaths!

  28. Emma says:

I would SO go to a tournament. Also, my cards arrived today (and I’ve pre-ordered the still got legs booster pack) and I played with my friends, who actually asked to play agin afterwards because it was so good, so I’m sure they’d come too 🙂
    xx

  29. Susie says:

My sopio cards are taking a really long time to get here (we ordered them on the 15 th Aug and they still haven’t arrived) and i live in the UK, is there a reason for this? Is it normal for it to take so long, or is something up with our order?
